Location

The house is right off Woodland Avenue, three miles up the hill from Lake Superior and the 21st Avenue East exit from I-35. It's a 10-minute drive from Canal Park.

It's between Hartley Park and Forest Hill Cemetery, so there's a lot of wildlife traffic, including the occasional bear. In fall, deer come to eat apples from two trees.

From the house, it's a five-mile walk on the Superior Hiking Trail  to the Rose Garden, through Hartley Park, Bagley Park and Chester Park.

The No. 13 bus passes the end of the street and goes to the University of Minnesota-Duluth and downtown.
